PhD Position in Neuroscience – Spring 2027
Neuromodulation, Brain Resilience and Neurovascular Coupling
College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Al Ain, UAE
Applications are invited for a funded PhD position in Biomedical Sciences/Neuroscience at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University, for Spring 2027 admission.
The successful candidate will join our neuroscience research group and contribute to an ongoing research program investigating brain resilience, neuromodulation and neurovascular coupling. The project will examine mechanisms underlying individual differences in brain function and resilience and how these may be modified or characterized using multimodal neurophysiological and neuroimaging approaches.
The work may involve combinations of non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS/tDCS), EEG/TMS-EEG, MRI/fMRI, behavioral and cognitive testing, and measures of neurovascular function, depending on the candidate’s background and the final project direction.
Candidate profile
We are looking for a motivated candidate with:
-
A Master’s degree in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, physiology, psychology, biomedical engineering, medicine, or a closely related discipline.
-
A strong academic record and eligibility for admission to the UAEU PhD program.
-
Appropriate English-language proficiency in accordance with UAEU admission requirements.
-
Previous research experience, preferably involving neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuroimaging, brain stimulation, EEG, MRI/fMRI, cognitive neuroscience, or related methodologies.
-
Strong quantitative, analytical and scientific-writing skills.
-
Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary research team.
Experience with MRI/fMRI analysis, EEG, TMS/tDCS, physiological signal processing, MATLAB/Python/R, or statistics would be advantageous but is not essential. Previous peer-reviewed publications would also be considered an asset.
Research environment
The candidate will work within an active translational neuroscience environment at UAEU CMHS with access to 3T MRI, non-invasive brain stimulation, EEG and related neurophysiological facilities, and opportunities for collaboration across neuroscience, clinical medicine and biomedical engineering.
Application
Candidates must satisfy the formal UAEU PhD admission requirements. For the Spring 2027 rolling admission cycle, applications are being considered between 9 September and 12 October 2026.
Interested candidates should initially send:
-
CV;
-
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree transcripts;
-
brief statement of research interests and relevant experience;
-
English-language test result, where available;
