Aspiring Neuroscientist with Nursing Background, Seeking Guidance

Hi everyone,

My name is Ann and I’m currently in my first semester of a nursing program. I’ve always been fascinated by the brain and the nervous system, and my long-term goal is to pursue a PhD in neuroscience, focusing on [ cognitive neuroscience or neuropharmacology]

I joined NeuroStars because I want to learn from the community, explore research opportunities, and get guidance on building a strong foundation in neuroscience while completing my nursing degree.

I’m particularly interested in:

• Online courses or resources to strengthen my neuroscience background

• Lab or research experience suitable for beginners

• Advice on planning the path from nursing → neuroscience PhD

Any guidance, tips, or mentorship from anyone who has gone through a similar path would be incredibly appreciated

Hopefully,
Ann

Hello @Ann_Anna ,

great to hear you are interested! I could recommend Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain, Enhanced Edition: Exploring the Brain … - Mark Bear, Barry Connors, Michael A. Paradiso - Google Books as a good starter about Neuro-physiology and Neuroanatomy. I do not have much knowledge about the focus topics of your choice, hope someone else with more foundational knowledge will respond! Do not hesitate to reach out in case of questions, and happy learning!

Best regards,
Stefan
