Assessing the quality of distortion correction

Hi all,

I am preprocessing a dataset using fmriprep v24.0.1, we have B0 fieldmaps (2 magnitudes and 2 phases) for each BOLD run and are trying to use this to correct for field inhomogeneity.

Below are some examples of pre/post-correction images, I’d like to have some feedback on whether the distortion correction looks good or not. I am especially concerned about what looks like a loss of signal toward the back of the brain as well as strange distortions in frontal areas.

Many thanks

Hi @hugofluhr,

You should also look at the coregistration between EPI and T1w. You should pay particular attention to areas where SDC is most common (frontal and temporal).

Best,
Steven

Thank you for the prompt reply!
Here are the corresponding coregistration images, I think they actually look pretty good.
