[BEP044] Request for Comments: BIDS Extension Proposal for Stimulus Files and Annotations (Stim-BIDS)

Dear Open-Science Community,

We are excited to announce that the Stim-BIDS Extension Proposal (BEP044) for standardizing stimulus files and their annotations is now ready for public comments and community review. This BEP addresses the need for a structured way to organize, reference, and annotate stimulus files within BIDS datasets.

Key features of the proposal include:

  • A standardized structure for the /stimuli directory
  • Introduction of stimuli.tsv/json for listing and describing stimulus files
  • Support for both still and time-varying stimulus annotations
  • Compatibility with existing BIDS events files
  • Enhanced FAIR principles for stimulus sharing
