I came up with this idea after being rejected by someone I deeply loved. The emotional pain was so intense that I even had thoughts of leaving this world. Instead of giving up, I started wondering if we could develop a treatment to help people going through this kind of suffering, as well as other severe emotional problems.
This is the idea behind Project Bondless: a possible medication or neural device that could reduce the intensity of a specific emotional attachment without removing the ability to love or experience other emotions normally.
I know this is highly speculative, and I’m not claiming that such a technology currently exists. I’m interested in whether this could theoretically be possible based on what we know about neuroscience, pharmacology, emotional attachment, reward systems, and brain stimulation.
Could emotional attachment ever be selectively reduced without fundamentally changing a person’s personality or ability to experience other emotions?
I’d really appreciate any thoughts, especially from people with knowledge in neuroscience, pharmacology, psychology, or brain-computer interfaces.
