Downloading dHCP data on a Linux Cluster w/o Torrent?

Hi all,

My university’s linux cluster is not very amenable to torrent clients, which seems to be the only way to download dHCP’s 3rd data release. Has anyone dealt with similar issues and has recommendations or alternative methods for accessing these files?

Thanks,
Steven

Hello Steven,

I had the exact same issue and the easiest/fastest option was to download to a regular workstation within the school’s network and then transfer (rsync or similar) to the cluster location. They had no issue with torrent traffic in the network as long as it didn’t go to the cluster. Hope this helps.

Best,
Diego

Hello everyone,

Following up on this topic, because we are trying to do something like this too. Is there any way to bypass the need to download this to a workstation? Alternatively, does anyone have experience/success doing this with command-line-based bit-torrent clients?

Thanks!
Ariel

For future reference, I was able to do this on an AWS instance using the Tranmission CLI, which can be installed on an AWS ubuntu instances using sudo apt install transmission-cli
