Electrode Placement for Simultaneous EEG and fNIRS Recording

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to collect EEG and fNIRS data simultaneously by integrating both types of electrodes on the same cap. Since both EEG and fNIRS rely on the international 10-20 system for placement, I’m struggling with how to arrange them without causing interference.

Specifically, I’d like to use fNIRS to monitor hemodynamic signals in the frontal and parietal areas. However, I’m concerned about how to place the optodes without sacrificing important EEG channels.

Does anyone have experience or suggestions on how to balance the two modalities? Are there any practical strategies to optimize placement so that I can record high-quality data from both EEG and fNIRS without significant signal loss?

Thanks in advance for any insights!
