Are you familiar with any papers about the behavior in time of the fields of different scanners?
Or- what is the maximum time you would suggest between the acquisition of the field map and the bold for which it’s “indended for” which will effectively help with the distortions?

Might not exactly be what you are looking for but check what they did with their fieldmaps in this paper.
Acquired fieldmaps at regular intervals and then interpolated over time to get correction at every time point for every functional volume.
Might wanna email the authors for more details though.
