Freelance Neuroimaging Analyst – MRI Preprocessing & ROI Extraction (Hourly, Remote)

Contact: Michele Geller (michele@3senses-design.com)

Location: Remote

Start Date: October 2025

Rate: Competitive, hourly

Estimated Time: 20–40 hours

Deadline for inquiries: ASAP, Rolling, but ideally by October 10

:brain: Project Summary

We’re seeking a freelance neuroimaging analyst to support secondary analysis of a fully de-identified, BIDS-formatted brain imaging dataset. The dataset includes 66 scans from 22 participants, with T1-weighted structural MRI and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) at three timepoints per subject.

You’ll be responsible for full preprocessing and ROI-level data extraction across both modalities, using standard neuroimaging tools. The statistical work will be handled separately — your focus is on clean, well-organized, and reproducible image analysis. You will be working with a junior, untrained researcher, and will be mentoring/sharing your methods and tips through the project.

**:wrench: Responsibilities are to ensure (by performance and mentoring) the following:

  • :white_check_mark: Verify BIDS structure and scan completeness
  • :white_check_mark: Preprocess T1w images using FreeSurfer (v7+, longitudinal pipeline)
  • :white_check_mark: Segment and extract amygdala subnuclei , hippocampus , and cortical thickness
  • :white_check_mark: Preprocess DWI using FSL (eddy, dtifit) and MRtrix (for tract-specific FA/MD)
  • :white_check_mark: Extract FA/MD metrics for key tracts (e.g., uncinate fasciculus, cingulum)
  • :white_check_mark: Perform light QC and include motion/ICV/CSF controls where relevant
  • :white_check_mark: Output a structured spreadsheet (or CSV) of derived features for statistical modeling
  • :white_check_mark: Mentor junior team member

:hammer_and_wrench: Tools Required

  • FreeSurfer (longitudinal mode)
  • FSL (eddy, dtifit)
  • MRtrix3
  • Optional: SPM, CAT12 (for VBM)
  • Scripting in Bash, Python, or MATLAB
  • Familiarity with BIDS datasets
  • Comfort working in NITRC-CE or similar neuroimaging VMs (can provide cloud setup)

:white_check_mark: Ideal Candidate

  • Has processed longitudinal multimodal neuroimaging datasets
  • Can work independently and document steps clearly
  • Familiar with best practices for QC and reproducibility
  • Comfortable sharing updates, logs, and final summary tables
  • Academic, industry, or freelance background welcome

:mailbox_with_mail: How to Apply

Please email Michele Geller at michele@3senses-design.com with:

  • A short description of your experience with similar projects
  • Your hourly rate and general availability
  • Any relevant GitHub, Google Scholar, or lab portfolio links
