GSoC 2026: Enhancing NWB Validation & Metadata Quality (Contributor: Sejal Punwatkar)

I’m Sejal Punwatkar, and I’m aiming to contribute to NWB via INCF for GSoC 2026. I’ve been working with the core team to improve the validation infrastructure and metadata quality.

My Track Record:

  • PyNWB: Added the ValidationReport dataclass (PR #2165).
  • HDMF: Implementing timezone validation logic (PR #1399).
  • BIDS & Brainzutils: Merged PRs improving metadata automation and API utility.
  • Community: Active in the Physiopy developer meetings.

GSoC Focus:
Based on discussions with Ryan Ly, I’m drafting a proposal to strengthen the Validation Ecosystem. I’ll be focusing on high-priority deep-dives in HDMF (pre-write validation) and NWB-Inspector (performance & parallelization).
