The latest issue of Nature Methods includes citations for three widely used software tools in our field. While this post is admittedly a bit of self-promotion, citing these tools when you use them is a great way to support a healthy and sustainable software ecosystem for free, open-source scientific software.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your invaluable software tools, such as dcm2niix and MRIcroGL, as well as your insightful discussions and informative blogs in Github, NeuroStars or your lab website, which have been immensely helpful for me.
Based on my experience with MRIcroGL, I believe that a more thorough documentation—covering all its features in detail—would significantly improve the user experience, as the current manual seems limited in scope.

I didn’t know the same person was behind dcm2niix
, MRIcroGL
and Surfice
, softwares I use a lot.
Thank you for everything you have done, and congratulation for the publications!
I’ll definitively cite them.

@younghoo Thank you for your kind words. I’ve tried to provide concise documentation via the NITRC wiki, but I recognize that developers often struggle to see a tool from the perspective of a new user. One of the great strengths of wikis is that they can grow through community contributions—so please feel free to expand the documentation or suggest improvements where you think more detail would help. Your input is always welcome.
