White matter hypointensity in T1. MPRAGE using Freesurfer

Dear Neuroimagers,
Can we rely on T1 MPRAGE for defining white matter lesions using the hypointensity segmented using Freesurfer? I know it would be better to have FLAIR but this is how the data has been collected and the analysis is gonna be retrospective!!
