A FULL-TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT is sought by the Neuroeconomics Lab (PI Dr. David Smith) and Social Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory (PI Dr. Johanna Jarcho), to begin in Summer 2019. Research in the Neuroeconomics Lab focuses on the neural mechanisms that shape social and economic decision making (https://sites.temple.edu/neuroeconlab/). Research in the Social Developmental Neuroscience Lab focuses on the neural mechanisms that shape social cognition, or increase risk for and expression of deficits in social competence linked to psychopathology (http://www.sdnlaboratory.com/). Behavioral, eye tracking, EEG, transcranial current stimulation (TCS), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)-based methods are used across both labs.
In addition to working on collaborative projects led by Dr.’s Smith and Jarcho, the individual who fills this position will be technically oriented and involved in numerous aspects of research in both labs, with an emphasis on deploying preexisting programming skills. Duties will include: (1) assisting with the design, programming, collection of data from experiments; (2) conducting data analyses; (3) developing and leading independent research projects; and (4) helping fellow members of the lab. The ideal applicant will have experience with neuroimaging data analyses (e.g., AFNI, SPM, FSL, Freesurfer) and/or programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab) and Linux environments.
This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who has completed their Bachelor’s degree and plans to apply to graduate school in psychology or related fields. Bachelor or Master’s level degree Psychology, Economics, Neuroscience, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field by the start of employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Prior experience in Computer Science, Psychology, Economics, Neuroscience, or a related field.

Demonstrated programing/scripting skills in Python and/or Matlab

Demonstrated experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS) to complete data analyses.

Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.

Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.

Some experience managing or monitoring the work of others.

Comfortable giving presentations to small groups.

Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to administer study protocols as necessary.
