Hi everyone, I’m so happy to be part of the NMA, my name is Jessica and here is a brief background of my research experience and interests in computational neuroscience.

As a bionic engineer, I worked on artificial vision techniques for analyzing images of wild trees, the aim was to generate three dimensional models of the mechanical behavior of trees. As a master student, I worked on machine learning techniques to emulate the receptive field of a neuron in the stereoscopic depth perception process. The algorithm developed detects and segments the salient objects from a pair of rectified stereo images, using an algorithm bioinspired in the human visual attention process and graph algorithms, in order to compute the match between left and right salient objects.

Nowadays I am looking for a PhD program, my research interests are: the visual cortex, depth perception, machine learning, HRI, gaming and augmented reality-based rehabilitation treatments and any other new vision based method to train the brain. My main motivation is to help people get rid of neuropathic pain and improve their quality of life with the use of technology.

Thanks

Hi y’all!

I’m Alvaro from Argentina. I’m a medical physics student, doing a masters next year at Instituto Balseiro. I’m being introduced to behavioral and motor neuroscience. Our lab researches brain plasticity and motor learning, using mice as biological models.

I’m learning German, so if you are interested we could plaudern hahaha!

Looking forward to the coming weeks!

Hallo, I am Juhyun Kang, just call me Yunni.

I am a Neuroscience Master’s student at Goettingen University in Germany.
I assume that my experience in computational neuroscience is quite at the starting page compare to others.
I studied 1 year on synaptic vesicle recycling by using an autaptic-patch clamp and DNA cloning at the Maxplank institute for molecular medicine before entering my Master’s degree.
During my Master’s, I am building my experience in Electrophysiology, Imaging, and computer programing language and Imaging software for analysis.
I am taking the observer track since I have parallel lab rotation courses.
I am really looking forward to taking lectures and practical courses with people from all around the world.
This Neuromatch academy will broaden my experience in the computational field and boost my enthusiasm.
I hope I can also find a clue for my future PhD path by looking at mentors and peers.

Thank you!!

Hi everyone!

I am Taniel Winner (she, her, hers) - 2nd year PhD student at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. I am interested in human gait and would like to use machine learning to characterize gait in stroke survivors and potentially predict the best rehabilitation solution for their needs. I am excited to learn more at NMA!

Hi everyone, my name is Jhony Mejia (jamejiap on TW if you want to connect).

I am a Colombian Biomedical Engineer particularly interested in the field dementia, and that is why I am looking forward to study a MSc in Dementia at the UK. I joined this group as part of the Neuromatch Academy under the observer pathway. I believe that this event will be the perfect opportunity of bolstering my computational skills while interacting with fellows interested in Neuroscience.

In the past I have worked with structural MRI for diagnosing dementia, but the results were not that interesting. So far I have applied basic machine learning (random forests and SVMs) and more advanced (Neural Networks used for 2D images), for analyzing the MRIs. Anyway, with the teaching of the Academy and more experienced neuroscientists, meaningful models could be created.

Finally, my main interest is early diagnosis of dementia using any kind of data (although I am a bit biased towards imaging). I am also deeply interested in biomarkers for dementia.

If you want to keep talking, do not hesitate in contacting me. All the best!

Hi everyone:) I’m Ailene Chan, a third year undergraduate student at The University of Hong Kong double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. I study visual neuroscience, in particular binocular vision and multisensory processing using psychophysics, TMS and fMRI. Nice to meet you all!!

Hi, everyone! I am Melinna, a phd candidate from Sun-Yat Sen University in China. At first, I am fantastied in neuroscience, since it can offer the opportunity to look into the brain. But currently, I am more interested in how the research question was proposed and how the research could answer their question. It’s lucky to be involved in this course. Hope the project can help me have a better understanding about neuroscience and have fun together.

Cheers~

Hi everyone!

My name is Eliza White and I am an undergraduate at Brigham Young University studying neuroscience and mathematics. Like many of you, I am planning on continuing my education and earning a Ph.D. in computational neuroscience!

This course will be my first real exposure to computational neuroscience, so I feel very underqualified (I’ve only been personally developing MATLAB and Python skills over the past few months) but grateful for this opportunity. I am looking forward to working with and learning from all of you!

P.S. I would love to build some long-lasting and resourceful connections during this three-week course. If you are looking to create a network of peers, please message me! I will be excited to hear from you.
